Minister Douglas attends Inaugural Ireland -Latin American and the Caribbean Business and Economic Forum
The Right Honourable Dr. Denzil L. Douglas arrived in Dublin, Ireland, to attend the inaugural Ireland-Latin America and the Caribbean Business and Economic Forum.
This meeting follows on from Ireland’s new Latin America and Caribbean Strategy 2025, which aims to bring Ireland and the LAC region closer together through a broader partnership in trade and investment, people-to-people contacts and economic relations.
“The timing of this forum is most opportune. While it aims to increase Ireland’s diplomatic and economic footprint in our region; it coincides with St. Kitts-Nevis’s decision to enhance its partnership with the Republic of Ireland and aligns well with our national development agenda,” declared Dr. Denzil Douglas.
Since his arrival in Ireland, FM Douglas, who also holds the Investment and Economic Development portfolio, has already held private meetings with locally based entrepreneurs who are keen to engage with the Government of St. Kitts-Nevis.
“PM Drew’s administration has prioritised economic diversification and the transformation of St. Kitts-Nevis into a sustainable islands state. I believe that Ireland is a natural partner for St. Kitts-Nevis. We hope to benefit from its expertise in building out our digital economy, developing our national platform for e-governance services, and strengthening our international financial services architecture,” Dr Douglas concluded.
FM Douglas will engage later today with representatives from Ireland, Latin America, and the Caribbean. He will also participate in bilateral meetings. Dr Douglas is accompanied by the High Commissioner to the Court of St. James’s, His Excellency Kevin M. Isaac.
