The Dominica Association of St Kitts and Nevis (DASKN) Celebrates 45 Years of Dominica’s Independence
31 October 2023, Basseterre, Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis – The Dominican Diaspora residing in the Federation of St Kitts and Nevis, celebrates 45 years of Independence of the Commonwealth of Dominica.
The celebrations commenced with a church service at the Antioch Baptist Church, on Sunday, 29th October. In his remarks, President of the DASKN, Mr. Ray E. Francis, highlighted the strong historical bonds that connect St. Kitts & Nevis and Dominica, including through one of the National Heroes, Dominican born Sir Caleb Azariah Paul Southwell and also dating back more than 400 years to the migration of the Kalinago people from St. Kitts to Dominica, after the massacre at bloody point.
Immediately following the church service, the group socialised at a brunch which highlighted Dominica’s cultural heritage in the variety of local Dominica dishes served and cultural music played.
The celebrations will culminate in a Flag-raising ceremony on Friday, 3rd November at the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank’s campus, at Bird Rock, St Kitts.
