PARTICIPANTS HAIL SUCCESSFUL 4-DAY BUSINESS OF MUSIC WORKSHOP
Basseterre, St. Kitts, May 27, 2022 (SKNIS): The May 23rd to 26th Business of Music workshop was hailed as a resounding success by participants who expressed great appreciation for the wealth of knowledge and development techniques shared by international music experts.
Nicha Byron who performs under the name Nicha B had high praise for the facilitators who came to St. Kitts as part of a team assembled by Kittitian-Canadian music icon Ivan Berry.
“To all the facilitators, individually I want to thank you guys for coming here and sharing the information with us. As they say, you could have done this on Zoom or so (many) other ways and we really appreciate you guys for being here physically with us. It meant a lot to us. That is why I came every day,” he said.
Topics covered included Caribbean Music Industry, Entertainment Law, Music Publishing, Touring, Concerts and Merchandising, Digital Distribution, Artiste Management Development, and Brand Marketing.
Nicha B said that he has learned more in the short four half-day sessions than he has in his 14 years as a songwriter, recording and performing artist.
“You guys have enlightened me to a lot of stuff in the industry. Things I need to do to move forward, things I never knew before,” he stated. “… I am very grateful, and I hope that everyone here is also grateful for having you guys here. You feel like family in the four days.”
Mr. Byron expressed his intention to share the information gained with peers who did not attend the free training. He also invited the professional team to return with advanced training material.
Music icon Berry expressed pleasure with the workshop, noting that the time spent by the professionals and the content and materials shared in such a setting would normally carry a half a million-dollar price tag.
“The Government has done a fantastic job in bringing us here and making sure that the creative sector is addressed,” Mr. Berry indicated.
He embraced the goal of the Government to have similar development sessions noting that he has a vast network of industry professionals who can contribute to the initiative. The overall plan is to advance the development of a recording industry in St. Kitts and Nevis, where music artists are so secure in their job that they can generate income to feed their family and have revenue streams that can go on for years and years.
