GOVERNMENT’S COMMITMENT TO THE FEDERATION’S NURSES REMAINS STEADFAST, WITH SUBSTANTIAL ONGOING INVESTMENTS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 31, 2023 (SKNIS): The government’s steadfast commitment to enhancing the healthcare sector remains evident through substantial investments directed towards nursing positions, education, and leadership development.
This was highlighted by the Prime Minister and Minister of Health, the Honourable Dr. Terrance Drew during a special interview on Thursday, August 31, 2023, with members of the media dubbed “The Roundtable.”
“We have provided scholarships for nurses to go and become specialists. Thus far, two nurses have taken up the opportunity to pursue specialties in Jamaica in [Intensive Care Unit] ICU Care,” said Prime Minister Dr. Drew. “We don’t have any ICU Care specialist’s nurses here and so the trust is that we create as many specialists in St. Kitts and Nevis.”
Prime Minister Dr. Drew extended his commendations to the nurses who have embraced the chance to evolve into specialists.
The Minister of Health emphasized a notable advancement through the incorporation of six (6) novel positions designated for nursing managers. This strategic move bolsters the administrative facet of nursing care provision at the Joseph N. France General Hospital, ensuring optimal outcomes for all individuals.
Just recently, a cohort of local nurses, who pursued their education and fulfilled their requirements at diverse institutions within the Republic of Cuba, received formal recognition as Registered Nurses within the borders of St. Kitts and Nevis.
Prime Minister Dr. Drew expressed admiration for these nurses, acknowledging their steadfast commitment to their vocation.
