  • Can a recommender be a friend or family member?
    A family member cannot be a recommender. A person who is not a family member but has known the applicant for 2 years or more and owns a business stamp may be a recommender.
  • Do I still need to provide my Birth Certificate to renew my passport although I am in possession of a passport?
    Yes, A birth certificate is always required when applying for a new or renewing a passport.
  • Will my original documents be returned?
    Yes, all original documents are returned with your new passport.
  • Will my passport be returned if it has a visa from another country?
    Yes, the old passport will be returned with the new.
  • Can payment be made by personal cheque, interac, credit card or etransfer?
    Payment can only be made in the form of a money order.
  • Can you send me the information that is required to obtain a birth certificate?
    Information required to obtain a birth certificate can be mailed to you upon request.
  • What if I do not have a birth certificate for myself, my parent(s) or grandparent(s)?
    The Consulate can assist applicants in getting a birth certificate for themselves, their parent(s) or grandparents(s) from St Kitts and Nevis.
  • How long does it take to process a citizenship by descent application?
    It takes 3 months or more to process a citizenship by descent application from the date that the documents are received in St Kitts and Nevis.
  • Can I apply for citizenship for my children at the same time?
    Yes, you may apply for your children’s citizenship at the same time of your application.
  • Can I also apply for citizenship for my spouse at the same time?
    No, you must be granted citizenship before applying for your spouse.
  • Can I apply for a St Kitts and Nevis passport at the same time?
    No, you may only apply for a St Kitts and Nevis passport after you have been granted citizenship.
  • Does becoming a citizen for St Kitts and Nevis mean a person must apply for a passport?
    No, when a St Kitts and Nevis citizenship has been granted, a person may either immediately start an application for a passport or choose to apply at a later time.
