SKN: Due Diligence First, Cryptocurrency Second
St. Kitts-Nevis (SKN) Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Hon. Dr Terrance Drew, attended the Electronic Cash Conference 2022 on November 12, 2022. The conference was held at the Royal St. Kitts Hotel and was organised by Sunny Gehani, a St. Kitts-based citizenship by investment consultant and businessman, and hosted by Elliott Price of Feindish Crypto.
Addressing the conference as a guest speaker, Prime Minister Drew expressed that while the Bitcoin Cash is used by some businesses in SKN, due diligence checks were presently being prioritised by the Government ahead of any major decision concerning the cryptocurrency’s official use. The Prime Minister stated that the financial safety and security of citizens and residents is a matter of high priority, hence the Government of SKN, with the guidance of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank, is prepared to explore the possibility of Bitcoin Cash being introduced as legal tender in the local financial space.
The Prime Minister explained that once all the crucial financial safeguards were in place, Bitcoin Cash could become accepted legal tender in SKN by March 2023.
The conference was attended by Roger Ver, the founder of Bitcoin.com, and many other professionals from around the world, spanning a wide range of careers and expertise. These included but were not limited to business proprietors, entrepreneurs, political leaders, and software developers.
