ST. KITTS AND NEVIS PIONEERS AI-POWERED ASSISTANT TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT ITS LAWS
Basseterre, St. Kitts, December 02, 2024 (MJLA): St. Kitts and Nevis, by way of its Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs, has taken a significant leap forward in making information about its laws and government policies accessible to its citizens and residents with the launch of VoiceIT, an artificial intelligence-powered assistant. With this initiative, St. Kitts and Nevis is the first country in the Caribbean to integrate artificial intelligence into government services to provide legal and regulatory responses directly to the public.
VoiceIT is a virtual assistant built using advanced generative AI and is trained on the laws of St. Kitts and Nevis and the policies of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs. It allows users to ask questions and receive instant, accurate information in an easy-to-understand format. Beyond answering questions, it provides direct links to legal and policy documents for transparency and reliability.
The AI assistant is designed to be user-friendly and adaptable, serving as a valuable resource for students, professionals, business owners, and residents seeking clarity on their rights or legal obligations.
VoiceIT is accessible through multiple platforms:
· Website Chat: Users can access VoiceIT on the lawcommission.gov.kn website via a pop-up chat feature.
· WhatsApp Integration: By adding VoiceIT on WhatsApp (+1(878)219-2013), users can interact through text, voice, or by uploading documents and images.
· Voice-to-Voice Interaction: For individuals with visual impairments, VoiceIT offers voice-to-voice communication.
· Language Support: VoiceIT accommodates non-English speakers by enabling conversations in various languages, making it accessible to all members of the community.
The system is also designed to keep learning. As new laws, amendments, and Ministry policies are introduced, VoiceIT updates its knowledge base to ensure users have the latest information at their fingertips. VoiceIT represents a major step toward transparency and public accessibility, two key goals of the Ministry of Justice and Legal Affairs. It simplifies access to information that may otherwise seem complex or difficult to navigate.
“This is a proud moment for St. Kitts and Nevis,” said the Honourable Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs, Garth Wilkin. “With VoiceIT, we are not only embracing technology but setting a new benchmark in how governments can make information more accessible to their citizens, a key feature of our Sustainable Island State Agenda.”
According to Attorney General Wilkin, the launch highlights the Federation’s commitment to innovation and leadership in governance, positioning St. Kitts and Nevis as a model for integrating technology to empower its citizens. While VoiceIT provides accurate and detailed information, it is designed for general informational purposes only. It does not replace professional legal advice, and users are encouraged to consult lawyers for detailed or case-specific inquiries.
VoiceIT is now live and ready to assist users.
