Own Your Summer Initiative Launched to Support Youth Engagement Across St. Kitts and Nevis
The National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing has announced the launch of Own Your Summer, a national youth engagement initiative forming part of its broader Summer of Intervention programme.
The initiative is designed to provide structured, positive opportunities for young people between the ages of 13 and 18 during the upcoming summer holiday period, with a focus on keeping youth constructively engaged across communities throughout the Federation.

According to Coordinator of the National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing, Eartha Carey, the initiative represents a strategic expansion of the Secretariat’s community-based approach to youth engagement.
“Own Your Summer is about creating meaningful opportunities for young people during a critical period,” Ms. Carey said. “By working alongside community groups, camps, and organisations, we are strengthening the support systems around our youth and helping to ensure that the summer months are both productive and safe.”
The programme will be delivered in partnership with community groups, camps, businesses, and other organisations, building on existing initiatives while introducing additional activities aimed at youth development.
Activities will include sports and recreation, mentorship, skills development, and creative and educational engagement. Opportunities for older participants will also include internship and exposure programmes.
Ms. Carey emphasised that the initiative is grounded in the Secretariat’s human security framework, which focuses on prevention, early intervention, and creating environments that support positive outcomes for young people.
“This is not about replacing what already exists in our communities,” she added. “It is about supporting and strengthening those efforts, ensuring that more young people have access to structured, engaging opportunities during the summer period.”
Community organisations, camp operators, and youth groups are being encouraged to partner with the Secretariat by registering their interest and learning more about the support available through the initiative. This includes coordination support, programme enhancement, and collaboration opportunities aimed at expanding the reach and impact of summer activities across the Federation.
The Secretariat noted that the success of the initiative will depend on strong community partnerships and broad participation from stakeholders across the country. Interested organisations are invited to contact the National Secretariat for Human Security and Wellbeing to enrol and receive further information on participation and support.
The Own Your Summer initiative is expected to roll out in the coming months as part of ongoing efforts to promote safety, wellbeing, and opportunity for young people across St. Kitts and Nevis.
