Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in Taiwan Explores Cooperation with I-Mei Foods During Factory Visit

Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan), April 16th, 2026 (Embassy of Saint Christopher and Nevis)— His Excellency Donya L. Francis, Ambassador of Saint Christopher (Saint Kitts) and Nevis to the Republic of China (Taiwan), accompanied by Second Secretary Rolhensha Henry and Executive Assistant Alice Huang, visited the I-Mei Foods Nankan Factory in Taoyuan City on Wednesday, April 15, 2026.

The visit provided an opportunity to observe the company’s operations firsthand and identify potential areas for collaboration between Saint Kitts and Nevis and I-Mei Foods.I-Mei was established in 1934 as a cake shop and has since expanded into an international food manufacturer, offering pastries and other snacks, cooking oils, organic foods, and nutritional supplements.

The tour of I-Mei began at the museum with a presentation on the company’s history and traditional food production tools, including pastry equipment and benches made from recycled drink cartons. The delegation visited an ecological zone where wastewater is recycled for plant irrigation and fish cultivation. Afterwards, they toured the production lines for hamburger buns and English muffins, which are supplied to stores such as Costco and McDonald’s in Taiwan.

Officials from I-Mei also introduced its food safety laboratory, which tests for contaminants and ensures products meet safety standards, including inspections of raw milk and detection of solvent residues and unusual odours.During the visit, Ambassador Francis commended the company’s longstanding reputation and forward-looking approach. Discussions also highlighted the importance of fostering partnerships that support food security, innovation, and sustainable practices, areas of shared interest for both Saint Kitts and Nevis and the Republic of China (Taiwan).

“I want to commend I-Mei for its strong focus on quality, food security, public health, innovation, and sustainable development,” he stated. “I hope we can establish a partnership as our country aims to reduce its food import bill and achieve food security.”The Embassy expresses its sincere appreciation to His Excellency Jack Yu-Tai Cheng, Ambassador (Retired) and President of Taiwan News (owned by I-Mei Foods), for facilitating the visit.
