St. Kitts and Nevis Co-Sponsors Historic UN Resolution on Transatlantic Slave Trade
Abuja, Nigeria, March 25, 2026 (PMO) – Prime Minister Hon. Dr. Terrance Drew has revealed that St. Kitts and Nevis has joined global efforts at the United Nations to formally recognize the transatlantic slave trade as one of humanity’s greatest crimes.
During his keynote address at the Afri-Caribbean Investment Summit in Abuja, Nigeria, March 25th, Prime Minister Drew highlighted the significance of a resolution being presented at the United Nations, led by the President of Ghana, His Excellency John Mahama.
“I want to highlight and to recognize His Excellency, the President of Ghana… He’s presenting today [March 25th] and tabling before the United Nations this very day… a resolution that recognizing the transatlantic slave trade as the worst crime ever committed by humanity.”
The Prime Minister confirmed that St. Kitts and Nevis stands firmly in support of this historic initiative.
“St. Kitts and Nevis is a co-sponsor of that resolution and I’m waiting patiently and anxiously to hear that the resolution would have passed in the halls of the United Nations.”
Dr. Drew emphasized that the effort represents a unified stance between Africa and the Caribbean in advancing justice and historical recognition on the global stage.
He also made clear that the commitment to this cause will not waver. “But I dare say, for some reason, if it does not pass, we will do it again until it passes.”
The Prime Minister framed the resolution as part of a broader movement toward justice, togetherness, and coordinated political advocacy between Africa and the Caribbean. And further noted that such collaboration reflects a growing alignment between the regions, not only economically but also diplomatically, as they work together to shape global narratives and policy outcomes.
