Department of Constituency Empowerment Leads Carnival Cleanup Ahead of the Launch of its 2026 Environment for Everyone Campaign 

Basseterre, St. Kitts, 8 December 2025 – The Department of Constituency Empowerment within the Ministry of Environment, Climate Action and Constituency Empowerment, in collaboration with community enhancement groups across the Parks and Beaches Unit, the Ministry of Health, the STEP Office, the Solid Waste Management Corporation (SWMC) and the Public Works Department, will commence a comprehensive Carnival Cleanup from 8–19 December 2025.  

This initiative serves as a forerunner of the Ministry’s flagship Environment for Everyone (E.F.E.) Campaign to be officially launched in 2026 as part of the DCE’s thrust towards spearheading an expansive National Environmental Wellness movement in the new year; a vision that will seek to advance environmental wellness as a public good through enhanced community service and assistance, public engagement, awareness activities, and sustained cleanup action, all aimed at fostering a Federation-wide behavioral shift towards the environment supported by cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable communities across the Federation.  

Advancing National Environmental Wellness Through Collective Action 

The carnival season draws countless residents and visitors to the nation’s capital each year, making it essential to ensure that major routes and high-traffic areas remain clean and welcoming. The Cleanup seeks to enhance the Carnival experience while reinforcing the message that “the environment is for everyone.” 

This Cleanup seeks to enhance the carnival experience, representing the Ministry’s commitment to fostering environmentalism and positive environmental stewardship across all sectors and experiences by encouraging shared responsibility and stronger public participation in maintaining the beauty of our surroundings during the height of the festive season – reinforcing the message that “the environment is for everyone”. 

Focus Areas and Activities 

Cleanup activities will focus on key communities and thoroughfares across Basseterre. The execution scheduling is as follows: 

• 8–10 December 2025 – (Springfield, Patsy Allers, Dr. William Connor) – Clearing and trimming of overgrown trees and bushes  

• 11–14 December 2025 (Church Street, Fort Street, Cayon Street, the Square, the Circus, Newtown Bay Road) – Cleaning of drains, verges, and sidewalks across Church Street, Fort Street, Cayon Street, and surrounding areas  

• 15–17 December 2025 (Newtown) – Continuation of efforts in Newtown and the Big Drain corridor.  

• 18–19 December 2025 – Final sweep and beautification of Carnival spaces ahead of peak festivities.  

The Ministry encourages residents, community groups, and partners to build on this momentum by doing their part throughout the carnival season and beyond to ensure a cleaner, healthier Federation.
