Saint Kitts and Nevis Nationals in Taiwan Participate in a Two-day Student Partnership Program in Sister City Kaohsiung
Taipei, Republic of China (Taiwan) (25th November 2024)– On Saturday, November 23rd and Sunday, November 24th, twenty-seven nationals of Saint Kitts and Nevis, currently studying and working in Taiwan, joined thirty-one Taiwanese students to participate in the “Kaohsiung Meets Saint Kitts and Nevis: Global Student Partnership Program.”
The two-day event was organized by the Embassy of Saint Kitts and Nevis in the Republic of China (Taiwan) and the Kaohsiung City Government to implement the Sister City agreement signed by Dr. Terrance M. Drew, Prime Minister of Saint Kitts and Nevis and Chen Chi-mai, Mayor of Kaohsiung City, in June during the Prime Minister’s second official visit to Taiwan.
Saint Kitts and Nevis’ Resident Ambassador to the Republic of China (Taiwan), His Excellency Donya L. Francis, gave brief remarks at the opening ceremony on Saturday. He expressed thanks to the Department of Administrative and International Affairs of the Kaohsiung City Government for planning the event and to three partnering universities: National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology, Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, and National Sun Yat-sen University.
During his remarks, Ambassador Francis said, “Today, we are not just celebrating the beginning of a program; we are celebrating the power of connection and the shared aspirations of our youth.”
He further stated that through this partnership program, students from Kaohsiung, and Saint Kitts and Nevis will engage, learn, and grow together, creating friendships and memories that transcend geographical boundaries.
Participants embarked on an inspiring tour of the city, exploring historical and tourist attractions, eating local food and snacks, hand-printing their own bags, and enjoying a memorable yacht cruise.
The Embassy of Siant Kitts and Nevis in the Republic of China (Taiwan) expresses special gratitude to Jolander Isaac and Teresa Dias, who made an excellent presentation on Saint Kitts and Nevis, and to Davrald Webbe-Allen, Jahdel Allen, Hakim Blackmore, Abigail O’Flaherty, Jahmarley Riley, Tyrique Jeffers and Howard Liburd who gave a thrilling folklore performance.
The Kaohsiung City Government and the Embassy are considering making the “Kaohsiung Meets Saint Kitts and Nevis: Global Student Partnership Program” an annual event.
