SKNBS Pursues Accreditation in Microbiology and Chemistry to Boost Public Health, Trade, and Environmental Safety

St. Kitts and Nevis, September 24, 2024 (SKNBS): The St. Kitts and Nevis Bureau of Standards (SKNBS) is taking a significant step forward by seeking accreditation in Microbiology and Chemistry. This move is aimed at ensuring the Bureau’s laboratory testing services meet the highest international standards, particularly in areas critical to public health, such as food safety, water quality testing, and product certification.

Accreditation will not only enhance the quality and reliability of the bureau’s services but will also validate its technical competence on a global scale. This recognition is crucial for maintaining high standards in public health, safety, and environmental protection, as well as aligning the Bureau with international trade and consumer safety requirements.

“Accreditation is essential because it strengthens the credibility of our systems and processes,” said Deputy Director of the Bureau, Mr. Jermine Mike. “It ensures that our methods comply with ISO 17025, an internationally recognised standard for testing and calibration laboratories. This gives our stakeholders confidence in the accuracy and reliability of our results, both nationally and internationally.”

The anticipated accreditation will have far-reaching impacts on the services offered by the SKNBS in Microbiology and Chemistry. Globally recognised and accepted test results will facilitate smoother international trade, eliminating the need for additional testing when dealing with foreign markets.
