ST. KITTS AND NEVIS SEEKS TO ESTABLISH A HIGH-END HOTEL FROM A POPULAR INDIAN CHAIN
Basseterre, St. Kitts, August 22, 2024 (SKNIS): In a move to expand the tourism sector and stimulate the local economy, the government of St. Kitts and Nevis is seeking to establish a high-end hotel within the Federation from a renowned Indian hotel chain.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Right Honourable Dr. Denzil Douglas, during a press conference held on August 22, at the Ministry of Trade’s Conference Room.
Minister Douglas emphasised strengthening ties between St. Kitts and Nevis and India, noting the interest from Indian businesses to invest in the region.
“The people of India know of us and want to do business with us,” said Minister Douglas., “We want to bring an international brand of India to St. Kitts and Nevis, specifically catering to high-net-worth travellers from India.”
Dr. Douglas said that the project is expected to significantly enhance the tourism sector by increasing the number of available rooms, creating a more diverse range of accommodations for visitors.
Beyond tourism, the proposed hotel project is poised to have a profound impact on the local economy.
“It will also provide hundreds if not thousands of jobs for our people and thus ensure that the economic spin-off which this ministry and government want to achieve will eventually be in our sights,” he said.
Minister Douglas also addressed the challenges faced by the hotel industry, noting that the Federation continues to feel the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. He acknowledged that while current occupancy rates may not meet expectations, this should not deter efforts to attract high-end branded hotels to St. Kitts and Nevis.
