St. Kitts and Nevis to Host CaribNOG 26: Achieving Digital Independence
September 01, 2023 – The picturesque Federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis is set to host the 26th regional gathering of the Caribbean Network Operators Group (CaribNog), scheduled to take place from September 11 to 12, 2023. The event will convene a diverse assembly of technology experts, network engineers, and telecommunication representatives from across the Caribbean, Latin America, and North America. Under the banner of “Achieving Digital Independence,” the conference will center on essential themes related to network security and technology infrastructure resilience, pivotal for the progression of Internet development within the Caribbean region.
The IXP team made a courtesy call on the Minister of Information, Communications and Technology, Hon. Konris Maynard on Tuesday 5th September 2023 where discussions on six (6) policy recommendations to ensure fair access and sustainable development of the IXP. The policy areas included Public Utility Framework, Governance, Open Access, Data Privacy and Security, Backhaul Access and Telecommunications Tariffs.
CaribNOG, renowned for its biannual regional meetings, is celebrated for its role in cultivating collaboration and knowledge-sharing amongst ICT specialists. The event offers a unique platform for attendees to discuss innovative ideas, exchange experiences, and collectively address pressing challenges. These interactions form the bedrock of strengthened collaboration and camaraderie, which are indispensable for securing and advancing the digital infrastructure within the Caribbean.

One of the current collaborative initiatives involves CaribNOG’s partnership with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to design and implement a local Internet Exchange Point (IXP). Konris Maynard Minister with responsibility for Information, Communications & Technology.
Bevil Wooding, co-host of the meeting and Director of Caribbean Affairs at the American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN), acknowledged the integral role of the collaboration. “In recognizing that the Internet is now a utility, we understand the profound impact of Internet service disruptions. ARIN is committed to enhancing the reliability, security, and resilience of the internet infrastructure. Since its establishment in 2007, CaribNOG has played a pivotal role in fostering the development of Internet networks and network engineering in the Caribbean.
