The UWI Open Campus St Kitts and Nevis celebrates Professional Development Achievements
The UWI Open Campus St Kitts and Nevis, Wednesday, May 31, 2023 – The University of the West Indies (The UWI) Open Campus St Kitts and Nevis Site celebrated the professional development achievements of 189 individuals who completed short courses from January to May 2023 in a virtual certificate giving ceremony on May 24th.
The courses drew participants from the public and private sectors in St. Kitts and Nevis, as well as Grenada, Montserrat and Tobago. The courses were Effective Leadership and Management, Entrepreneurship and Business: Theory and Practice, Introduction to Counselling, Introduction to Digital Marketing, Law for Human Resource Practitioners, Advanced Supervisory Management, Project Management, Managing Conflict and Communication, Essential ICT Skills for Office Administrators and Spanish for Travel and Business.
The ceremony was chaired by Mrs Gaile Gray-Phillip, Head of Site of The UWI Open Campus St. Kitts and Nevis Site. She congratulated all course participants and encouraged them to continue their lifelong learning journey with The UWI Open Campus.
Ms Jamie-Lee Rock, Officer-in-Charge of the Continuing and Professional Education (CPE) Centre of The UWI Open Campus, also delivered congratulatory remarks. She emphasised the importance of celebrating all achievements, whether big or small, and highlighted the value of professional development for personal growth and career advancement. The guest speaker was Mrs Shanola Murrey-Gill, Training Officer in the Department of Human Resources of the Nevis Island Administration (NIA). Mrs Gill shared her insights on how professional and personal development can bring about balance, success and fulfilment in life and work.
She also underlined the role and responsibility of employers in enabling and encouraging employees to pursue continual education for the benefit of both individuals and institutions. Mrs Murrey-Gill lauded The UWI Open Campus for providing learning opportunities through its Continuing and Professional Education Programme.
Ms Jovil Taylor, one of the course participants, delivered brief remarks on behalf of the participants. She described the Continuing and Professional Education Programme as a stepping stone that helped her gain new skills and knowledge that she could apply in her current job.
The UWI Open Campus St. Kitts and Nevis Site provides lifelong learning and workforce development to residents of St Kitts and Nevis. There is a growing interest in the CPE Programme as new courses are continually being added to its offerings and the online delivery facilitates greater access for residents.
