The UWI staff, students and alumni worship at St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Charlestown, Nevis
The UWI Open Campus St Kitts and Nevis, Tuesday, February 21, 2023 – As one of the celebratory activities to celebrate the 75th anniversary of The University of the West Indies, a group of staff, students and alumni from the Nevis Site of The UWI Open Campus, along with alumni from other UWI campuses, worshipped at the historic St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Charlestown on Sunday, February 19th. In his sermon, Father Cleverton Beckford challenged The University of the West Indies, its staff, students and alumni to work to ensure that genuine equality prevails within Caribbean societies and also for Caribbean countries and people within the broader, international arena.
The University of the West Indies has established itself as a pillar of higher education in the Caribbean through educating and empowering generations of students to have a positive effect on their communities and beyond.
The UWI 75th anniversary is being celebrated across the four campuses and the wider Caribbean region with a range of activities and events. In St Kitts and Nevis, January 7th was declared “UWI Day” by the former Governor-General Sir Tapley Seaton. Locally planned activities include an inter-faith service to be held in March at the Wesleyan Methodist Church, Basseterre, St Kitts, social events for alumni and current students, public lectures, a research symposium, a lunch-and-learn series, and other activities. A special invitation is extended to alumni, family and friends of the UWI to attend the 75th anniversary activities.
