ECLAC, FAO and WFP Will Launch Joint Report on Food Security in Latin America and the Caribbean
The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) will release a new, joint Policy Brief entitled Towards sustainable food and nutrition security in Latin America and the Caribbean in response to the global food crisis next Tuesday, December 6.
The document will be presented at a hybrid press conference (in-person and virtual) given from ECLAC’s central headquarters in Santiago, Chile at 11 a.m. local time (UTC/GMT-3) by José Manuel Salazar-Xirinachs, the United Nations regional commission’s Executive Secretary; Lola Castro, WFP’s Director for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Mario Lubetkin, FAO’s Regional Representative for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The report analyzes the international context and how the successive crises, along with the war in Ukraine, are affecting Latin America and the Caribbean’s access to food and to key inputs for regional agriculture, which endangers the food security of the region’s inhabitants, especially of the most vulnerable population.
Members of the media are invited to participate in the press conference, which will take place at ECLAC’s building (Av. Dag Hammarskjöld 3477, Vitacura, Santiago, Chile, Sala Celso Furtado). Journalists must have their media credentials or their IDs with them to gain access to the building and must get accredited in advance by sending an email to prensa@cepal.org.
