Minister’s Statement – Jahzara Claxton
As Minister of Sport, I extend congratulations to Jahzara Claxton from Sandy Point on her selection to the West Indies Under 19 Female Cricket Team.
Jahzara’s selection is historic as she is the first female from St. Kitts, and I am even prouder to add that she is the first female from the Leeward Islands to gain selection to the West Indies Under 19 squad.
We are quite elated that Jahzara has been selected for the Women’s Under 19 Training Camp and trial matches to be played in Trinidad and Tobago ahead of the upcoming tour of India later this month. Her selection is indicative of her very strong commitment to excellence in Sports.
We commend her and her support cast, inclusive of her family and coaches. One of her coaches is Dilyn Liddie, a Cricket Coach in the Department of Sports.
We are also very proud of the head Coach of the team, St. Kitts and Nevis’ very own Steve Liburd, who continues to provide very commendable guidance. It is interesting to note that Jahzara is also a national football player for St. Kitts and Nevis, representing our Federation at the CONCACAF Women’s U20 Championship. She is an exceptional sports lady, and we salute her.
The Ministry of Sport continues to work assiduously to ensure that the requisite policies and framework are in place so that Jahzara and other athletes can thrive. Honourable Samal Duggins Minister of Sport and the Creative Economy November 03, 2022
