International Women’s Day 2022
SKNCIC salutes and recognizes the contribution of all of our Women in Saint Kitts and Nevis, our changemakers, doers, leaders, and visionaries who are paving the way for a better future for all.
March 8 marks this year’s International Women’s Day (IWD 2022), a global day celebrating women’s achievements in cultural, social, economic, and political advancements. It also stands as a pledge for gender parity and equal opportunity for women.
With the World Economic Forum’s 2021 Global Gender Gap Report findings telling us that as the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic continues to be felt, closing the global gender gap has increased by a generation from 99.5 years to 135.6 years.
The theme for IWD 2022 is, “Equality today for a sustainable tomorrow”, recognizing the contribution of women and girls around the world, who are leading the charge on climate change adaptation, mitigation, and response, to build a more sustainable future for all.
Kevin Hope
Executive Director
Manufacturing Division (IWD2022)
It is an honor today to join in the parade of saluting all our women both present and those who would have made a great contribution to the development of the Manufacturing Industry across our Federation St. Kitts and Nevis.
Manufacturing has been the leading industry for over 300 years starting in the name of sugar production. There we saw our women making their contribution from the raising of the sun and the setting of the same but notwithstanding leaving the fields and closing their day by ensuring their children are fed and husbands or significant other needs are met.
Women are the seed of our Federation, as they are the ones who bring into this world our leaders, health givers, religious advisers, and our educators. The steady contribution to our gross domestic product (GDP) by the manufacturing sector, is as a result of our women as they continue to exhibit their unmeasurable skills and dedication to the advancement of the sector. Let us not forget, it was the federation of St. Kitts and Nevis who led the sub-region of the Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS) by achieving the milestone of leading the way in exports into the North American Market for a consecutive period.
Today, we are seeing and experiencing women filling senior roles within the sector who were once dominated by men, especially in the areas of engineering, department managers, and actual plant managers. As a division, we take this time to salute you as you continue to blaze the trail in full representation on behalf of the manufacturing division. May Our God continue to bless all our women and their families as they continue to ensure St. Kitts and Nevis through the manufacturing division is a better place for all to find employment where each of us can make a living.
Again, on behalf of all the employees (more so the men) within the sector, we stand at attention and salute our women for their sterling contribution to the overall development of the Manufacturing Sector. Once again Thank you
Kevin Taylor
Chairman of the Manufacturing division.
